GridForge Terrain: Expendable & Exoplanet

GridForge Terrain: Expendable & Exoplanet

It started in the summer 2025 with the Cocytus Station and some surrounding terrain that were released as Expendable, a Frontier campaign at our distributor Myminifactory. But soon we realized that the Cocytus Station could be so much more. In the fall our Kickstarter campaign GridForge: Exoplanet Colony snowballed into a massive colony base on a desolate planet.

The Cocytus Station’s beautifully sculpted GridForge terrain and STL scenery are built to inspire cinematic skirmish tabletop games in an environment that includes communications relays, strip mines, exterior terrain, and a modular colony base allowing reconfiguration of corridor layouts, as well as changeable size and shape of science labs, power plants, executive hangars and more. Who knows what horrors you’ll meet behind corners in the corridors or in the open field? Or what moral decisions must be made, maybe with lethal consequences?

So please explore below our Cocytus Station, a modular sci-fi colony that can terraform your tabletop, inspired by classics of survival horror. Just remember that this is only one way of building the station. You can build your own network of exterior terrain and corridors connecting to hangars, vehicle garages, research labs, executive suites, power plants and more, with floor and wall tiles that can be hot-swapped in seconds. Perfect for visualising your corporate dystopian future RPG, sci-fi fighting game, or for making awesome cinematic dioramas.

We have divided the Cocytus Station up into numerous sections:

The Vehicle Garage

The Highlander ATV dominates the righthand corner of the screen.

Any colony needs an area to maintain and repair vital equipment. The vehicle bay includes two exterior doors (expandable), a repair bay, stairs, and storage. The walls have an industrial look and the floors are a mixture of rubber matting and metal plates built to take a beating in all conditions…

For moving heavy equipment… The Power Loader is the only item other than the miniatures that is painted.

The (Executive) Hangar

The SS Alecto might be a way off Cocytus… but something is lurking the shadows. (Xeno mini by Papsikels).

Large enough for an orbital shuttle or modest pleasure craft, this hangar is expandable, and has a large space for vertical landings, storage bay, mezzanine, an airlock, vestibule and control room.

Prefab Colony Corridors

The sealed environment of Cocytus Station is linked by a series of modular prefabricated corridors that allow the inhabitants to move about freely without wearing an environment suit.

Linking the various areas of Cocytus Station is a network of prefabricated passages, junctions and sealable doors. Practical in nature, the metal grates allow easy access to the piping below.

Eerie lighting works fantastic with a mixture of filament types…
… as well as cold white light to give the industrial feeling.

The Power Plant

They say it’s safe, but best to avoid contact with the coolant.

The power plant keeps Cocytus running, the reactor room is lined with reinforced, tiled walls, a coolant pool, and a multitude of pumps, cooling systems and batteries, along with the reactor itself.

An engineer makes a repair on one of the batteries.

The Research Labs

With a patient observation room, server room, offices, cryogenic storage and medical scanner room the research lab is well equipped to take care of patients, but why are the premises off limit for most personnel?

Off limits to most personnel, the research labs focus around a central work area with workstations and sample containment. Apparently the union reps aren’t allowed in here either. In addition to the lab, there is a patient observation room, medical equipment storage, an MRI theatre, head researcher’s office, server room, and cold storage with units large enough for… um… people.

Someone is snooping around where they don’t belong…

The Executive Suite

The executive suite is where the administration shows their lessers the discrepancy between blue collar and white collar.

The executive suite includes a series of offices with faux wood paneling lead to a board room, back office, and the unnecessarily big executive office. Rumours are there is a trap door in the floor. The area beyond is a meeting room mostly used for visiting VIPs and abuses of power.

On a station where breathable atmosphere is in short supply, this is excessive…
The foyer is designed to remind you of your place.
Waiting for that meeting with the boss can’t be good…

Exterior Terrain

Outside, we have a rugged landscape of weather-worn rock and sand.

The exoplanet Cocytus is a nonwelcome place with:

  • Rocky Cliffs. Two inch terrain risers.
  • Rocky Boulders. Flat terrain with boulders of various sizes and styles, including standalone versions.
  • Rocky Flats. Flat terrain.
  • Rocky Steps. Shorter, half-tile risers, including corners
  • Strip Mine Ramps. Wide tiered ramps that let vehicles traverse tiers of the rocky terrain.
  • Transition edges. Clip in edges that slope the terrain down to the tabletop.
Ramps built by mining tailings is a way to navigate rocky plateaus on planets like our Cocytus.
Failing communication relays are a disaster on a desolate planet. Better keep up the maintenance.
Rocky cliffs and flat terrain are distinctive traits of Cocytus.

The Expendable and GridForge: Exoplanet STL-files are fully released and printable.
